POWERCON 2016 Student Program (organised by the IEEE PES University of Wollongong Student Branch)

  1. Student Poster Contest session:

+ Awards: 5 best posters will be selected by the committee, and each winning prize is with a certificate and money worth $AUD200.

+ Date and time: Thursday 29th of September, 5:30PM – 7:30PM

+ Location: Conference venue

+ Procedure: Student must declare to participate the poster session when registering for the conference.

+ Requirement: (1) The student must have IEEE PES membership. (2) The students should be the first author. (3) The students must come and attend the conference. (4) Students have to prepare  and present the poster. (5) Posters should be A1 size which is 594 x 841 mm.

  1. Student Travel Grant Support Program

+ Awards: 20 selected winners will be given $300AUD each.

+ Date and time of announcement: Friday 30th of September, 6:30PM

+ Location of announcement: Conference Gala Dinner venue.

+ Procedure: Student must declare that they would like to participate the program when registering for the conference.

+ Requirement: (1) The student must have membership with IEEE PES; (2) The student should be the first author in the paper submitting to the conference. (3) The students must come and attend the conference.

  1. Student Visits Program : Visiting the Innovation Campus and the beautiful South-coast

+ Both visits are sponsored by the conference and all students are encouraged to participate.

(1) Visiting Sustainable Buildings Research Centre (SBRC) at Innovation Campus, University of Wollongong;

Date and Time: Wednesday 28th of September, 10:00AM – 12:00PM

+ Procedure: Participants must register to participate. Places are limited so it is run by first come first served. Registration is open until Tuesday 27th of September, 12:00PM online using this link.

(2) South-coast Visit.

Date and Time: Wednesday 28th of September, 2:00PM – 4:00PM

+ Procedure: Participants must register to participate. Places are limited so it is run by first come first served. Registration is open until Tuesday 27th of September, 12:00PM online using this link.

+ Notice: covered shoes are required. Students need to bring the identification.

  1. Industry Interaction

The interaction includes sharing from power industry leaders and experts about the experiences, challenges in the modern working environment. Especially, you can learn some tips to success, and avoid mistakes for your further study and work. Also it provides the critical information about future workforce which relates to your future career. The industry interaction is a dynamic event that will be held throughout the conference in addition to specific sessions such as industrial panel and Gala dinner.

  1. Social night:

+ This event is free and all students are encouraged to participate.

+ Location: Stuart Park, 600m form the Conference Venue.

+ Date and time: Thursday 29th September, 7:30PM – 8:30 pm.

+ This event will provide a venue where students can develop friendships and will provide a forum to discusss ideas about how to be successful in carrying out research in power system field and tips for success in paper and thesis preparation.  Also, as participants come from various cultures in the world, they can share their specific culture and discuss opportunities for electrical engineering career in their respective countries. Food and drink will be provided.
